Feedback for Words Are Things:
'I LOVED the Words Are Things workshop. I've never been to anything like it before and was amazed at how easily the creative juices flowed.' Joe

'I found that the workshop exercises were very inspirational in the way they approached the construction of texts from angles I'd never considered. I thought the content was excellent... My only complaint is that it isn't more often!' Tony

'I really enjoyed the workshop and think you structured it very well, with the activities building into each other in a good creative flow!' Astrid

'But words are things and a small drop of ink,
Falling Like dew upon a thought, produces
That which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think.'
Lord Byron, Don Juan
Artist Mark Pembrey and writer Dulcie Few lead a workshop investigating visual poetry and the physical qualities of words, combining their artistic and literary disciplines. A useful and enjoyable dialogue will take place, looking at relevant artists and poets, and creating new work in a relaxed and friendly environment. We will be exploring, among other things,
Concrete poetry
Forms of poetry to which the look of the poem on the page is integral: shape poems, pattern poems, carmen figurata.
Object-based poetry
Poems inspired by objects, objects inspired by poems, poems made from objects and objects made from poems.
Typography
How the fonts we choose and our awareness of typography effect the way our material is read.
Each participant will come away with one or more self-made book(s) of Concrete Poetry, a poem-object, new skills and inspiration for further work.
