Birthday!

This Stray Signals marks the event's one year birthday. Bring stories, poetry or anything to share (doesn't have to be related to the birthday theme). There will be cake!

After this Stray Signals we'll be taking a break. We intend to create a book or some kind of document, compiling a year's worth of selected stories, photos, drawings, press and other bits and pieces. More on that soon.

We hope to see you in November. Whether you're an old regular or you've never been to Stray Signals before, here's your chance to come and say Happy Birthday and So Long For Now to a cantankerous wordy one year old.

Mono.

Monologue, monotone, monolith, monobrow... A good dose of monomania will make this Stray Signals a monomental occasion.

Circles.

Plots that come full circle, poems that tie beginning to end, bodies that make circular motions. Bring your own take on the theme, perform, listen, form a circle.

Circular inspiration: Julia Copus' poem 'In the Backseat of My Mother's Car', Italo Calvino's fable 'The Man Who Shouted Teresa', Jorge Luis Borges' fiction 'The Circular Ruins', Ian Hamilton Finlay's mandalas.

Optional theme/activity: Arguments.
An argument might take place between two or more people, or as a personal monologue. It could involve objects, animals or forces that can't argue back. You may have a point your dying to argue to the rest of the audience. Arguments are often fun, cathartic, and aren't always aggressive. Arguably.

The Big Picnic at St Nicholas Rest Garden

Thanks to everyone involved in the successful event at St Nicholas Rest Garden. We hope that all those new to the garden love it as much as we do and feel like they can come back and use it. There are currently plans to next host an event there for the White Night festival, 30th October.

Sneaky Low Five meet their new band member/aspiring conductor.

This month's optional theme/activity is 'from memory'. We'd like the majority of works performed to be committed to memory rather than read from the page. It could be a story, poem, a joke, a personal anecdote, or whatever you can remember...
